Markgill: As per the Pathaway user manual... You start out with a map as an image in BMP format. (You can use Jpg as well I believe). Before it can be used in your GPS, it has to be converted to PRC format so that the Palm device can use it. You load the graphic image into the Pathaway Map Manager ...

Markgill: There are no "default maps" for Pathaway - You create (or find and download) and install your own maps as required. Pathaway is a "raster mapping" GPS program - It uses digital photos for its maps (that's why it is such a wonderful program for hiking, fishing, geocaching, etc... You can l...

Dan, Generally, when I want to make files available to PA, I simply copy them from my PC to whatever directory on the SD card I want using a card reader. It is MUCH faster that attempting to hotsync your files to the card via the PDA. To "register" which folders on your SD card you wish PA to search...

First - You should be aware that PA is somewhat "limited" in the amount of information it imports from GPX files - It extracts the waypoint name, the short description and the long/lat and that's pretty much it. It doesn't import any of the notes, the long description or any of that. I generally imp...

No problem... Please let us know if you discover which app (if any) was causing the problem... (That way the rest of us TX owners can watch out for it..) :-)

I've been using Pathaway on my TX for over a year without any difficulties... Possibly you have an incompatibility issue with another piece of installed software? (NVFS PDAs can be pretty particular about what will work with what...) My suggestion would be to do a full backup to your SD card using N...

The BT GPS you refer to seems to have a pretty short battery life between charges - I would suggest you might want to look into the iTrek M3 for the same price as yours, but with a 15 hr battery life. ( http://www.semsons.com/im3blgpsresi.html ) I use this GPS with my Palm TX using Pathaway and am V...

You might want to consider the Palm Treo 650... (http://www.palm.com/us/products/smartphones/treo650/) - The only thing you would need would be an external bluetooth GPS. (The Treo doesn't have a GPS built in...)

As usual, bravo Scott. The latest release of .71 does indeed allow the direct import of raw GPX files. The import provided the geocache coordinates, the waypoint name, the cache name and the difficulty, all displayed in each geocache note. Thanks Scott! As always, another job well done. I look forwa...

Looks good Scott - The data transfer utility doesn't crash anymore when converting a GPX file. I had hoped that the new utility would extract a little more info for Pathaway though... Like perhaps displaying the contents of the <groundspeak:short_description> tag on the point note page. Ah well, Cac...

FIXED: Data Transfer Utility crashes

On attempting to send/convert a GPX file for Palm PDA using the Pathaway Data Transfer utility, the utility consistently crashes. In case I am incorrectly using the utility, I have taken screen shots of each step of the process, displayed in order below: Image1: Crash occurs regardless whether the f...

Oops - Seems I posted this in the wrong forum area... It should have been in the Pathaway 4 Palm Support area, not Pathaway 3 area... Scott - Could you move this entire thread to the correct area for me? (Sorry about that...) Mandox: Yeah, I've been doing it the same way - Using a LOC file - But acc...

Further, I tried a smaller GPX file - This one only contains 30 cache entries. On attempting to import - Same result - Crash & soft reset every time.

FIXED: Importing GPX causes soft reset

I am using a Palm TX, Pathaway 4.00.71. I am attempting to take advantage of the new GPX importing features of Pathaway. I generated a GPX "Pocket Query" from Geocaching.com. The Resulting GPX file is 644K in size. The GPX file was copied to the Pathaway\Points folder I created on my SD card using a...

Guenther: Not sure what might be causing such a problem for you, but on my Palm TX, 4.00.71 starts up pretty much as quickly as all the previous versions (5 seconds on my system - I have 198 maps (87 Megs of maps) on my SD card). The only time I've noticed a long delay (with the hourglass) is when ...
