Resolved: Routes based on imported GPX

Postby jp » Thu Jun 21, 2007 10:46 pm

I have a GPX file which holds a route generated by Google Earth (converted from KML to POIEdit). When I import the file in PA as points everything looks fine. I do the same thing from the routes menu it does not work. The import seems to complete correctly but the route route is empty.

Any reason for this behavior?

The test GPX file is attached.

Thanks for any explaination.

JP, hi

Have you solved this issue? I will be doing the same you are trying to do

In my case I want to create some waypoints in Google Earth, transfer to Garmin Mapsource ( I use GPSBabel to convert from KML to GPX, so I can read Google data in Garmin Mapsource), then I create the routes in Garmin Mapsource. As my little Etrex only holds 1 route, I can download from Garmin Mapsource to the Etrex just one route. So I want to create many routes in Mapsource and then transfer to the Palm (to Pathaway). I have not tried this last piece of the chain.

PathAway will automatically put the points into the Points database since the GPX tags are for points.

Note: You should download the latest build (4.00.74 or higher). GPX import has been improved a lot. Now when you import GPX, all tracks, routes, and points are imported from a single gpx file into multiple PathAway data files. (In older versions, if you import from the Routes dialog, then PathAway would only look for routes inside the GPX file).

If you want to import the points as Routes, then change the GPX file to surround the points with <rte><name>route name</name> followed by </rte>. And change <wpt> to <rtept>.

Hi Scott,
In my opinion the manual about the data transfer utility is very poor.
It should come with some kind of tutorial to let us understand the concept of how it works. For me it was not that selfunderstanding.

I tried a lot to convert GPX files to use un my Palm. It always sent or points, or tracks or routes, never the 3 of them together. Its really this??
What I'm doing is sending each one separately... and it worked!!!

Best Regards

Sounds like using the program for GeoCaching - I am doing the same.

Ok - I do not get it - how do we import this GPX file?

Have you found a way to import with the waypoint data differing icons for the screen?

Good Step By Step Doc Exist?

I am wanting to do this but would really rather I not have to conviene a science project to accomplish this mission.

Has a final listing of steps been created for this process?

I believe I am seeing many ways to skin this cat.
