VMG : Velocity Made good

I had discussed with scott in march 2006 about introducing the VMG function.
I post this topic to share this item.

Velocity made good is commonly used in sailing. It is the projection of your speed to the direct heading to the point.

When you set up a destination to a point (next point in case of a route),
if you go to that direction, your VMG = SOG (speed over ground).
If you go 90 degrees from that direction, VMG = 0
if you go 180 .... VMG = -SOG.

VMG = speed * cos(heading to point - current heading).

It measures how efficient you are, going to the point.

It should be easy to implement, as a new dashboard routing info (as VMG to next point)

Arthur & Scott,

I would also love to see a vmg function implemented.

Cheers,
Jens

Is there any news about the implementation of the VMG function ?
If any of you is interested, tell it, to have this function added to the software !
