Map Manager: Import new map

Postby zamzon » Sat May 28, 2005 12:57 pm

The attempt to import a TTQV calibrated map (map.jpg and map_jpg.cal) results in

"Could not add the map image because file "<whatever I wrote in the Import Map Window as 'Map Name'>" is an unknown picture format. "

But when I import the map itself (select the jpg and not the .cal) it gets read.

Strange enough a filemonitor reports no file access to the jpg at all.

the cal file looks like:

; Calibration File for QV Map
; ------please do not edit---------
; If you copy a mapfile from one directory or computer
; to another, also copy the CAL-file with the same name as
; the mapfile and you will keep the calibration
; Touratech QV 3.0.120 TEST VERSION

Direct import of TTQV files is not supported by PathAway Map Manager. This .cal extension is a conflict between old PathAway calibration files and TTQV calibration files.

You should always calibrate TTQV maps in the Touratech-QV Mapping Application, then use the File->Send to PathAway feature to create PathAway maps.

Same problem importing .jpr files.

I get the same error code when I try to import .jpr files:

"Could not add the map image because file "<whatever I wrote in the Import Map Window as 'Map Name'>" is an unknown picture format. "

Again the image itself imports fine, if I import it. But when I try to import the calibration information it can't import the image at all.

Fixed it. My maps were in .gif format, which isn't supported by pathaway. I had to save the image as a .jpg, and then change two things in the .jpr file -- the it=GIF tag had to be changed to it=JPG. And the nm=082g.gif tag had to be changed to nm=082g.jpg.

I've found reports of problems with the Treo 650 database management. There is a new update: OS version 5.4.7 that is supposed to address these problems but it is not confirmed whether it would fix the problem you're experiencing.
If TomTom is not using Palm Databases then this issue may not show up in their app.
Further investigation is required.
