Fixed: GPX export

Postby Ahto » Tue Mar 06, 2007 8:42 pm

The new GPX export is a welcomed feature but seems it is a bit buggy.

Version 4.0.60 Standard on WM5:

If waypoint in database has also note field filled, the note is not exported to GPX file. Instead, waypoint title is written twice to the GPX file, into name and desc fields.

Sample:

Code: Select all

<wpt lat="-8.81363400" lon="13.23413000">
    2000-01-02T14:07.51Z
    <ele>86.60000000</ele>

Hotel Globo

    <desc>Hotel Globo</desc>
    <sym>Dot</sym>
    <type>Waypoint</type>
  </wpt>

See above that the desc field gets title again instead of note.

Also, do we really need type field filled with info "Waypoint" as it is actually wpt element and everything should be clear? I suggest to omit this element at all as it priovides no useful info and programs that import from GPX just may import this useless "waypoint" phrase into description field.

Here we also see one very big problem with PathAaway -- it does not save date and time properly when waypoint was actually saved. This information is essential and I suggest to correct this problem ASAP. At least I can't see date/time anywhere in point properties in PathAway and here in GPS file is it also wrong (actual year was 2006). I have already reported this problem year ago. :(

These have all been now fixed, including creating the proper datestamp when adding a new point.
You can test them out in the pre-release build 4.00.61 at http://pathaway.com/prerelease4.htm

Code: Select all

<wpt lat="58.88405278" lon="25.56556111">
    2000-01-02T00:00:00Z
    <ele>74.30000000</ele>

Kodu

    <desc>Umbes pandud.</desc>
    <sym>Dot</sym>

  </wpt>

I see this description is fixed. However, with GPS not connected I made new point by tapping on a map and it contains elevation info? Perhaps this should be 0 for new points when GPS not connected?

Also, date is still wrong? Did you fix the date thing in this 0.61 pre-release or it is not yet uploaded? Why not display date in point details window?

Also, see sound and picture links in above code! These fields are empty but still exported for some points (not all). Perhaps after point is edited but no info provided for these fields? Plus "type" string for picture type contains garbage.

These have all been fixed and build 4.00.61 has been reposted (as of 3/10/2007) on the pre-release page 4.00.61.

thanks for the export features. works nicely for publishing while on tour.

how about being able to optionally export more than one item into a single gpx/kml file? like for example all checkmarked tracks instead of only the highlighted one? or even a full backup of all databases?

also... a really nice possible addition: pathaway should try to auto-import gpx/kml/etc when started with a filename as parameter and then auto-jump to start of imported route/track. we could then simply click on a tour description on a web page and have it ready immediately.

stefan.
