Data exchange (how to get maps and tracks on the iphone)

Postby Winterkind » Fri Jan 21, 2011 1:45 am

How am I supposed to get maps and tracks onto the device without a jailbreak?

I've have read the thread about importing tracks here:
http://pathaway.com/forum/viewtopic.php ... highlight=

But maps are too large to send them by mail and I can't open .zip or .prc files with Pathaway if I try to open them with safari. Even if this would work it wouldn't be very convenient for most iphone users I know.

Data exchange with itunes would be nice, but any fast alternative to a jailbreak would also be great.

If you posted them on a file sharing site, then opening via Safari should work. You need to run PathAway at least once to let PathAway register the file types.
How are you referencing them?

A popular alternative is using MobileMe and iDisk.

We are looking into more elegant solutions for this.

I started a local webserver, so I can just copy the files to a directory and open them with safari. The problem with this is that safari doesn't let me choose the program to open the file with.

Then I checked it with the mail client and a program called "USB Disk" and I can chose Pathaway there, so it works fine now! Thanks, the maps look great on the iPhone!
