Missing Dash Board items and handles

Some days ago the dash board items that i arranged floating around the screen are gone as well as the handles to place them.
I was digging through the menues, but didn't get a clue how to get them back.

This is how it was and I liked:

Do you have any hint for me?

In Settings->Dashboard.
Set the Portrait and Landscape types as "Overlay".
